Ode to Foodle

9 Jan

Do you remember the time when was my first Christmas after I went to school? It was nice morning and when I woke up, there was you and other things under my pillow with pretty wrapped paper. I was a little puzzled when I found you because I didn’t expect you as a present, but after I got it, I was so happy and excited when I received you as a present. Really, I wanted nothing for that Christmas but I was very happy and I can’t forget that feeling. I still have that pencil sharpener and foodle you. I can also remember that there was strawberry marshmallows from Japan. I really loved and enjoyed it.

Foodle, I think you was the best present that I ever received through life. I received it from my dad,(thank you~!) for Christmas present. You are my best friend. You listened to my talk always, and I was consoled by you every time I felt lonely or sad. You enjoyed together when I was happy, too~! Ah! You was best friend with other one person, too. He is my younger brother Hyun-woo~! Hyun woo was born in 2007, and you was born at 2006, Christmas so you are best friends. How Hyun woo loved you~! He always played with you and talked with you. He thought you as his younger brother and take care of you a lot. I was very happy about this fact because if I don’t play with you a lot (because now days, I’m so busy and can’t play with you because of lots of homework), you can play with him, too. because now days, I’m comfortable that you are with him.

Foodle, I have one thing to say sorry about. I still can’t decide you are boy or girl!!!! If I think you are girl, you looks so kind that is not match with girl image. Also, if I think you are a boy, you looks so pretty that also doesn’t match with boy image. I just want to tell you as a friend, don’t care that you are boy or girl.

Do you know why I made your name Foodle? It’s because your fur is so soft and looks like rose, so I named you Foodle, which means soft and feels good in Korean.

I want to see you a lot, in this GLPS camp and I hope to see you again as soon as this camp is finished. I miss Hyun woo and all of my family members and Foodle you, too!! I love you a lot and I miss you!!! You are my best friend~!!!!!!!!!!!!

THBT Immigration is bad for Korea.

  • If workers come to the country, pay taxes, join the military, etc., etc., it can be good
  • Anti-immigration advocates believe that harsh new laws will drive illegal immigrants out of the United States. They ignore the fact that the primary victim of these laws aren’t undocumented foreign workers, but business owners who are expected to verify the immigration status of each new employee.
  • Korea has one of the worst immigration polices in the world. Even people married to Korean citizens are given few legal rights and benefits. Current Korean laws favor “Controlling immigration” rather than adopting  polices to foster it.

The way to be happier!

Hello, everyone. I’m pleased to be here in front of you. Today I’d like to talk about ‘The way to be happier!’

Without a doubt, you are the most important person in your life. Ironically, many people don’t get along with themselves. In other words, many of us don’t know how to love ourselves. Loving yourself and feeling great about yourself is very important for your happiness. If you don’t have a healthy relationship with yourself, you can’t really have meaningful relationships with others, either. Before trying to love other people, learn to love yourself first!

First, Know Yourself Better : Sit down in a quiet room with a piece of paper and a pen. Then, ask questions about yourself and write the answers down. In order to love someone, you have to first know that person. You should think about your goals, dreams, and future career. Think freely about yourself. Knowing yourself is the first step in building self-love.

Second, Accept Yourself the Way You Are : No one is perfect and everyone has flaws. Do not criticize yourself for being imperfect. Accept your flaws and the fact that you are not perfect. Instead, be nice and gentle to yourself. Look in the mirror and say, “It’s OK to have flaws. I still love myself very much. I will learn from my mistakes and try to become a better person.” Then, give yourself a big, warm hug!

Third, Focus on Your Abilities : Focus on your strengths to boost your self-confidence. If you are good at doing something, put more time into that subject to improve your skills. Feel proud and grateful for having special talents!

Fourth, Practice Praising Yourself : If you want to grow the love you have for yourself, always think positively about yourself. Praise yourself every day in front of the mirror. It may feel awkward at first, but as you make it a daily habit, you will be able to do it more naturally. Take it easy and be patient with yourself. It takes time to build good habits.

Best of all, Enjoy Your Life : You need to feel happy to love yourself. Have a lot of fun in your life. However, in order to have fun you need to stay healthy. Your body is your home and you should treat it with respect, love, and care.

I hope you learn to love yourselves and be happier.  Thank you for listening to my speech.

Foul Fun- History 2nd presentation

5 Jan

Hello everyone~! My name is Jung Ye Won. Today, I’d like to tell you about some Foul Funs that were played in Victorian. Before I start my speech, I’m going to introduce you what I’m going to tell you about. First type of play was People peepers. Second one is Petrifying plays and I’ll give you 3 famous plays of Petrifying plays. Finally, I’ll introduce you about Putrid performances.

The Victorians didn’t have television which means they didn’t have any advanced playing things to have fun. They didn’t even had soap for a lot of them. But they did enjoyed going to the theatre.  The Victorians enjoyed plays with a bit of blood and murder in them, and if they were based on a true story then they were even more popular. Top of the Victorian pops in plays was Maria Maren- The Murder in the Red Barn. It was the true story of Maria, who was murdered- guess where? Yes, in a red barn. Her boy friend, William Corder, shot her and as she died she made a lovely speech. The crowds cheered for heroines like Maria, booed the villains like Corder and generally shouted at actors- it was more like a football match today.

First one of Foul fun was ‘people peepers’. This was a way  Victorians told stories was to put little puppets in a box. The viewers paid to peep through a hole and watch the puppets act out the story as one person told the tale and did all the voices. ( This was cheaper than having a big stage with lots of voice, of course.) The Murder in the Red Barn peep show was still popular in the 1860s, 30 years after the murder happened. It was so pupular the box had to have 26 windows for people to peep. In the 1860s a murder took place in the Red Lion pub in Berkshire, when a farm worker chopped the landlady with his reaping hook. One peep-show family group quickly changed the story of Maria Marten and added lots of red paint. What did they call the new play? Murder in the Red Lion, of course.

Second, they had some Pertrifying plays. The Victorian audiences just loved villains- and they also loved amazing scenes. The following villains and amazing scenes were shown live on stage. First one is Uncle Tom’s Cabin. Did you ever heard of Uncle Tom’s Cabin? This play based 0n the famous book about slavery in the USA. In this play, the villain is wicked slave owner. Big scence is that slave girl Eliza escapes over frozen Ohio River, chased by dogs as a captured wild horse escapers. Second one is After Dark. Play set in London and the Underground railway. The Villain is the criminal who druts our hero. The hero is laid across the railway track and is rescued a s a train rushes across the stage.  The rescuer has broken through a celler wall. The last one is the Flying Scud . This is a play about a race horse that must win the Derby if the villains are to be defeated. The villain is the book marker who drugs the jockey. A horse race on fire across the width of the stage. It was then attacked by fireman with a real fire engine. In the Puling Passion, a hot-air balloon took off and crash-landed in the sea, where a lifeboat came to its rescue. In the White Healther, the audience watched an underwater fight between the hero and villain dressed in diving suits. Each had a knife and the fight ended when the hero cut the villain’s air-line and left him to drown. The stage appeared to be underwater and there even seemed to be fish swimming around the fighting men.

Why did these plays stop? Why can’t you see them today? Because of a VIctorian invention- the moving picture show. After 1920,  the cinema was able to show bigger and more exciting scenes (using camera tricks) than they could ever do on stage. SO in the end, there was the most dramatic and sudden death of alll- the death of Victorian theatre.

IT was very sad that Victorian theatre end like this because if it was continued, we can see it really infront of us. However, I also think that it is much safer than seeing it really infront of us, and there is 3D or 4D movies so we can enjoy it like it is really infront of us. It was very fun and meaningful to learn about this topic and thank you for listening to my speech.

Just take a rest

Hello everyone~! I come back in a momment. These days I’m very tired but I’m achieving lots of things. I was very tired that I went to hospital last Friday, and now, I’m just okay.  But because I only sleep 6~7 hours, it’s very hard for me to concentrate on things. I didn’t even touched math!!!!!!!! I think I have to do it, but I’m not having many times, it makes me hard to do homeworks. There were many things happened, but I think I can solve the problems by calling to mom, asking roomates and help of dad. I think there’s nothing to worry about or cry but not having evidence. Well, today, one thing happened is yesterday, we have to give all snacks, give electric things like iPad, notebook or else. So, I had this note book and both snacks, but I didn’t give it becasue I was scared if I give this nothebook, teacher will ask me  why didn’t I give it last Sunday and also, if I give it to here, I can’t charge it everytime I neeed. Also, I can’t use it when I need it.  But I think I chosed the right way becasue it make my mind very peacefully and comfortably. I give up all of snacks too, but teachers said they’ll give it at party so I’m okay. The other students are all studying math or something else, so I think I have to do it too. Have a good night~!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Viral Video

4 Jan

Hello everyone!!! Long time no see~! I missed you a lot during this camp. @.@ Today’s essay is about Viral Videos.

In class time, we saw the most viewed video of 2011, Rebecca Black’s  Friday. Well, I thought she will be very happy because of her own voice and pretty face and fame by this video, but after I saw the news that because of her fame, she is very stress, and sometimes she need body gaurds to protect her, I think fame is not only good, because she can’t live her real daily life and she’s only 13 years old. We also saw the video named ‘Charlie bit my finger- again!’ and it was really fun. One boy seemed to be a older brother said ‘Charlie bit my finger!’ in very cute voice and fun face. He has a British accent and he acts so cute~  I like babys!!!!!!!!  So, today, I’d like to introduce you about ‘Charlie bit my finger- The accident’ I think it is the first version of Charlie bit my finger so let’s enjoy it!!

In this video, there is also two baby boys eating dinner together. At first, there is nothing happens but just babys are eating dinner(baby meals) peacefully. An then a comment comes out saying ‘ a lot of eating later’. And then the two little cute boys do very interesting and funny acts. It’s very sad that I can’t hear the boy’s voices because there is no sound in my computer, but it makes me happy by just looking at those cute boys. When I see their face, I miss my younger brother who is now in Seoul, but I’m now in Kang Won Do. ㅠㅜI miss you a lot Hyun Woo~!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

History- London Language

London Language

Hello everyone~!  My name is Jung Ye Won. Today, I’d like to tell you about London Language. People in most big cities have their own way of  talking. For example, in Korea, Seoul, Busan, Daejun, and all kinds of big or small cities have their own way of talking. We don’t use only one kind of language in every where in Korea, right?, Like this, people form the East End of London-Cockneys – made up their own slang words.

Before I introduce you about Cockney’s language, I want to introduce about who are the Cockneys and some typical features of Cockney speech. According to Wikipedia, the term Cockney has both geographical and linguistic associations. Geographically and culturally, it often refers to working class Londoners, particularly those in the East End. Linguistically, it refers to the form of English spoken by this group. Typical feature of Cockney is first, it is non-rhotic as with many accents of England. Non-rothic means they don’t pronounce ‘r’ sound. Second, Cockney has been occasionally described as replacing /r/ with /w/. For example, thwee (or fwee) instead of three, fwasty instead of frosty.

The Cockneys  used a few tricks to make new words – they spelled words backwards. For example, ‘cool him’ meant ‘Look at him’ – a warning when the police were near around. Sometimes they’d just make up words like ‘Do you tumble my barrikin?’ which means ‘Do you understand me?’  But the most famous Cockney tricks are when they chose a rhyme for the word. So your ‘north’, or your teacher told you to ‘shut your north’, then you maybe a bit mixed up. Another examples of ridiculous rhymes are in this comic. This white clothed man is seemed to be a criminal, and black clothed man is a police man. White clothe man says ‘There was nothing in me mother see?’ and there are three choices: (a)Mummy, (b) Chair and (c) cupboard. What do you think? The answer is (c) cupboard because old Mother Hubbard means cupboard. At second picture, there is a white clothed man saying ‘And I Fancied a Pig’s…’ and there are also three choices. (a) Beer, (b) Bed and (c) Pork Chop. The answer is (a) Beer because ‘Pig’s ear’ means beer in rhyme. At fourth picture a white man says ‘And I went to the Jack’ and there are also three choices (a) Bar, (b) Car, (c) Friend’s house. The answer is (a) Bar because Jack tar means the bar. At last picture, the white man says ” And that’s why I got a bad auntie Belly’ and the choices are (a) Toe, (b) Belly, and (c) Smell. THe answer is (b) Belly because Auntie Nellie means belly. Because of these ridiculous rhymes, that’s how it must have been for the poor police in Victorian London.

According to Wikipedia, the Cockney accent has long been looked down upon and thought of as inferior by many. the Cockney accent has been more accepted as an alternative form of the English Language rather than an ‘inferior’ one; in the 1950s the only accent to be heard on the BBC was RP, whereas nowadays many different accents, including Cockney or ones heavily influenced by it, can be heard on the BBC. In a survey of 2000 people conducted by Coolbrands in autumn 2008, Cockney was voted equal fourth coolest accent in Britain with 7% of the votes, while The Queen’s English was considered the coolest, with 20% of the votes. Brummie was voted least popular, receiving just 2%. This shows that although speaking with a Cockney accent is not considered as bad as in the past, preference towards RP still prevails.

Did you enjoyed my speech about London Language by Cockneys? I enjoyed a lot and I think it was very interesting to learn and research about London Language that is spoke by Cockneys. Thank you.
